Man in critical condition after suffering gunshot wound

BIG CREEK — The Shoshone County Sheriff's Office reports that a Life Flight helicopter was utilized Saturday for a male with a gunshot wound.

Around 12:23 p.m. on Dec. 19, SCSO dispatch received a 911 report from a woman saying that her husband had found a male laying on the ground in the gravel pit just above the Sunshine Mine up Big Creek.

Multiple emergency units arrived including medical personnel from Shoshone County Fire District No. 2 to find the male slightly conscious with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head. A handgun was also found next to the male.

Life Flight was quickly notified and used to transport the individual to Kootenai Health in Coeur d'Alene. The most recent update on his status is that he is in critical condition.

SCSO states that more information will be released after the man's family is notified.
