| July 9, 2020 3:29 PM

ST. MARIES – The St. Joe Ranger District of the Idaho Panhandle National Forests has opened National Forest System (NFS) Roads 1950, 1955, 3478, and 1487 for public, personal use firewood gathering this summer. Forest Service Roads 1950, 1955, and 3748 are located approximately four miles southeast of Emida, Idaho. Forest Service Road 1487 is located approximately six miles west of Clarkia, Idaho. The roads will remain open until August 31, 2020, when they close prior to the beginning of elk archery season.

“Personal use firewood gathering is important for the many communities within and adjacent to the St. Joe Ranger District. Many homes in this area augment their winter heating needs through the legal collection of firewood,” said District Ranger Matt Davis.

A Free Personal Use Firewood Permit is required to cut firewood on the Idaho Panhandle National Forests for the remainder of 2020. Permits can be obtained by phone from any of our offices except at the Coeur d’Alene Tree Nursery. For questions regarding firewood permits and cutting on the St. Joe Ranger District, please call (208) 245-2531.
