Terry Gene Skantel, 84

Terry Gene Skantel, 84, of Mullan, Idaho, passed away April 17, 2021, at Shoshone Medical Center in Kellogg, Idaho. He was born Dec. 24, 1936, in Mullan. Terry was the son of Joe and Mabel (McDonald) Skantel.

Terry has lived in the Silver Valley all of his life. He attended and graduated from Mullan High School in 1955. Terry then studied and attended electrician, mechanic/welding school.

Terry married the love of his life Lovina Sherman on April 15, 1966, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

Terry had served as a foreman for the water division of the Citizens Utilities Company in Wallace, Idaho, for 30 years.

Terry was a member of the Wallace Elks No. 331, he had served on the Mullan Volunteer Fire Department and the Mullan Planning and Zoning Committee.

Terry loved and enjoyed his family, mechanics, hunting in younger years, snowmobiling, camping and visiting with his friends.

Terry is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Lovina Skantel of the family home in Mullan; three children, Lonnie (Lisa) Skantel of Vancouver, Wash., Tracy (Kelley) Skantel of Hayden Lake, Idaho, and Terry (Geri) Skantel of Haugan, Mont.; seven grandchildren, Sam Skantel, Jack Skantel, Drew Suckow, Nate Suckow, Jeremy Skantel, Heather Skantel and Allison Kaufman; special nieces and nephews Neil and Diane Gallagher, Shawn (Pam), Brady, Darla and Darren; and sister-in-law Marge Skantel. Terry was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert Skantel and one sister, Dorothy Zagar.

A celebration of Terry’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 23, 2021, at the Morning Club in Mullan. After the celebration, a gathering will be held at the Outlaw and Corner Bars in Mullan; everyone is welcome.

The family suggests memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 911 W. Fifth Ave., Spokane, WA 99204; or to Hospice of North Idaho, 2290 W. Prairie Ave., Coeur d’Alene, ID 83815.

The family wishes to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff of Shoshone Medical Center and Hospice of North Idaho for their love and wonderful care that was given to Terry and the family.

Terry was a very special, kind and wonderful gentleman who was so loved by his family and friends and will be dearly missed.
