Everett Leroy Slusher, 89

Everett Leroy Slusher, 89, passed from this world on his journey to meet his Lord on Feb. 6, 2021, at Hospice of North Idaho Schniedmiller House in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Everett was born Oct. 7, 1931, to Ernest Leroy Slusher and Roma Catherine (Forester) Slusher in Coffeyville, Kan.

His family moved to the Silver Valley in 1941 where he attended school and graduated from Kellogg High School in 1949. He went on to Northwest Nazarene College but did not obtain his degree. He married Joan Shriner in Kellogg in 1951. They remained married for more than 69 years. They made their home in Pinehurst, Idaho, then St. Maries and back to Pinehurst, and for many years enjoyed wintering in Yuma, Ariz. Everett was employed by the Bunker Hill Company for 30 years as a maintenance mechanic at the lead smelter and zinc plant. He retired in 1980.

He was a member of the Silver Valley Church of the Nazarene. In his younger years, he had served as an usher, Sunday School teacher, board member and treasurer. While in Yuma, he attended Desert Grace Community Church of the Nazarene where he donated his time during the construction of their building. He was a member of Kiwanis International for 30 years transferring from the St. Maries Club to the Silver Valley Club. He enjoyed his time with them cracking eggs for their breakfasts and making popcorn at Paul Bunyon Days and visiting with other members.

He joined the Independent Order of Odd Fellows while in St. Maries and continued attending meetings and game nights until the end of his life. His lifetime hobby was tinkering on and fixing vehicles and teasing people with his own unique sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife at the family home in Pinehurst; four daughters, Roberta Guerra (Javier Perez) of Vancouver, Wash., Edith Hopkins (Steve) of Boise, Idaho, Marlene Martin (Teral Ellis) of Pinehurst and Alice Baillie (Melvin) of Kelloggl one son, Thomas Slusher (Olga) of San Diego, Calif.; grandchildren Miguel Guerra (Robert), Brock Martin (Suzanne), Justin Ellis (Stacey), Blake Hopkins (Stephanie), Stephanie Martin, Christina Parman (Jon) and Cassidy Slusher (Ryan Bower); great-grandchildren Jacob Karst and expected twin girls that he did not have the pleasure to meet; sister Doris Bennett of Pinehurst; brother Ed (Betty) Slusher; sister-in-law Grace Gibson; brother-in-law Michael Shriner; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He also leaves behind his beloved cat, Princess.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Robert Slusher; sister Catherine Edgin; and brothers-in-law Laurence Preston Edgin Sr., Victor Bennett and Wes Gibson.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
