SMELTERVILLE — A standoff between law enforcement and a Silver Valley man ended peacefully Wednesday afternoon.

Ryan Gaddy was taken into police custody for allegedly making threatening statements to law enforcement over the phone and on social media.

The Shoshone County Sheriff's Office, Pinehurst Police, and Shoshone County Fire District No. 2 responded to the residence after receiving a call from a person there.

After the initial contact between Gaddy and law enforcement, Gaddy posted on his Facebook page that he was, "currently in a standoff with the Shoshone County Sheriff's Office. This only ends one way." He later commented on the post that, "Anyone who enters will be assaulted until I am dead."

Three other people were in the residence with Gaddy, an adult female and two juveniles, who eventually exited the home at the request of law enforcement. According to Gaddy, the adult female is his girlfriend, who didn't want to leave their shared residence until she was confident the situation would be resolved safely.

Gaddy would then surrender to law enforcement without incident, who then escorted him to Shoshone Medical Center for treatment. Reportedly, he was treated and subsequently released by the hospital that same evening. He was not arrested or charged for his actions before arriving at the hospital.

Earlier in the day, Gaddy had posted a cryptic message concerning a dispute over a previous medical condition that had left him in severe pain and without treatment. Gaddy claimed that his pain, when added to his frustrations and other medical issues, sent him into temporary state of psychosis, resulting in rage.

"We're thankful that this ended peacefully," SCSO Captain Seth Green said. "This is a positive reflection of the countless hours of training our deputies and other area agencies receive."
