Restrictions lifted for Moon Pass
WALLACE – 17 months after a rockslide wiped out a section of road over Monn Pass, the road is open without any restrictions.
Shoshone County Public Works Director Jessica Stutzke said Monday, that slope stabilization work has been completed, and the daytime restrictions over the pass have been lifted.
“They are still doing some work up there, but nothing that requires any closures,” Stutzke said. “There will still be some trucks hauling things.”
The April 2024 slide resulted in thousands of cubic yards of debris, which was crushed and used to rebuild the road. The road reopened later that summer.
Earlier this year, Stutzke informed the county commissioners that additional work needed to be completed to stabilize the slope near the slide to prevent further erosion and reduce the potential for future slides.
The work was completed using a combination of county, state, and federal funds.
Stutzke plans to inspect the work on Tuesday but doesn’t anticipate any setbacks.
