Robert Joseph 'RJ' Keener, 63
Robert “RJ” Keener, age 63, of Silverton, passed away peacefully May 30, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. He was born March 18, 1962, in Joplin, Mo., to Delpha and Robert Keener. RJ lived a life marked by quiet strength, kindness and unwavering dedication to those he loved.
For 40 beautiful years, RJ was devoted to the love of his life, his wife Mary Kay. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, love and cherished memories. He is survived by his wife, Mary Kay; his children, Janet (Eric) Slater and Justin (Leeann) Keener; his seven grandchildren; his father, Robert Keener; his brothers, Walter (Beverly) Keener and Keith (Rhonda) Keener; his sister, LaJunta Martin; and his foster sister, Debi Phillips. He is preceded in death by his mother, Delpha Keener; step-mother, Wanalee Keener; mother-in-law, Janet Wynne; and father-in-law, Bryan Wynne.
RJ had a love for the simple pleasures in life — camping beneath the stars, casting a fishing line into still waters, and savoring a good bowl of ice cream at the end of the day. But more than anything, RJ will be remembered for his heart. He was the kind of man who showed up — whether with a helping hand, a listening ear, or a steady presence when times were tough. He made people feel like they mattered, like they belonged. That rare and beautiful gift touched more lives than he ever knew.
He was truly loved and is deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A memorial service will be held Friday, June 20, 2025, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Shoshone Funeral Services, 106 S. Main St., Kellogg, where a reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor RJ by extending a helping hand to someone in need or sharing a bowl of ice cream with someone you love.
