Local Prep Report: Wildcats have solid showing at Post Falls

| April 27, 2017 1:03 PM

The Kellogg Wildcat golf team showed that they can hang with the big schools this past Monday when they tied for third place at the Post Falls Invitational at highlands Golf Course..

The competition featured the Wildcats along with Lake City, Post Falls, Lewis and Clark, Sandpoint, Lewiston, Moscow, Coeur d’Alene, and Lakeland.

The Wildcat girls were no slouches either as they finished in a tie for fourth place.

Junior Cade Finlay finished among the top-5 performers of the day with a solid final score of 75, while teammates Taylor Bush and Tyler Gibbons shot scores of 80, and Chase Jerome’s 81.

Kat Rauenhorst shot a top-10 score of 91 to pace the girls team.

She was followed by Anika Sundstrom who shot a 100, followed by Morgan Nusz and Kylie Robinson who notched 102’s each.

The Kellogg Golf team has been running the table on the competition of equal size and with this solid showing the Wildcats should be feeling very good as district and state competition approaches.

Kellogg coach Simon Miller was pleased with the team’s performance and praised the progression he has been seeing.

“Anika Sundstrom has been making some significant swing changes and this is a great round for her,” Miller said. “In addition to Cade Finlay's solid 75, freshman Taylor Bush also stepped up with an 80. All around it was a successful day for the KHS Wildcat golf program as we head into the stretch run of the season.”

With a tough spring weather season, the Wildcats have not had consistently good weather to play in despite having a very successful season and Miller thinks that some good weather could be the thing that puts Kellogg over the top.

“As we enter the stretch run of the season, things are looking good, with room for improvement. Give these golfers some decent weather and look out,” Miller said.
