Mine fire memorial next week

The Silver Valley will gather at the Sunshine miner memorial in Big Creek for the 45th Anniversary of the Sunshine Mine Fire on Tuesday, May 2, at 11 a.m.

The event will be similar to the ceremonies of years past with Pastor Bill Howard officiating and will also include a message from guest speaker Dale Lavigne.

Complimentary coffee and cookies will be provided and memorial items will be available at tent, including name cards for each of the 91 miner who perished.

Following the ceremony, guests are encouraged to visit the Sunshine Memorial Exhibit at The Staff House Museum in Kellogg.

The 45th Anniversary Sunshine Miners’ Memorial Observance ceremony begins at 11 a.m. at the Sunshine Memorial Statue near Big Creek.
