I-90 seal coat to begin Monday
COEUR d’ALENE- All four lanes of Interstate 90, from Pinehurst to the Elizabeth Park Road Bridges at the east end of Kellogg, will be seal coated beginning Monday, Aug. 21.
The work will protect and preserve the roadway surface, extend the life of the highway, and provide greater traction for motorists.
Interchange ramps at Pinehurst (Exit 45) and Bunker Hill Road (Exit 48) also will be seal coated as part of the 7.5-mile project.
Drivers can expect short-term closures of the interchange ramps during the work.
Other ramps in the area will remain open and can serve as detour routes during the closures of the Pinehurst and Bunker Hill Road ramps.
Work will occur during daylight hours for the next few weeks.
Drivers can anticipate minor delays, with I-90 reduced to one lane in each direction.
To avoid windshield and paint damage, drivers should increase the distance between themselves and other vehicles and reduce speed.
A properly applied seal coat can add several years of service to the roadway by preserving the integrity of the asphalt and serving as a barrier to water and cracking.
Additionally, seal coating increases roadway friction and adds traction to the surface during winter driving.
Intermountain Slurry Seal, of North Salt Lake, Utah, is the contractor for this $834,000 project.
