Thomas Jay Pennington, 83

| December 20, 2017 4:08 PM

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, Thomas Jay Pennington, 83, of Cataldo, Idaho, passed away December 19, 2017 at the Shoshone Medical Center of Kellogg, Idaho. He was born July 6, 1934 in Huntington, West Virginia; Thomas was the son of Jay and Mary (Artrip) Pennington.

On July 16, 1955, Thomas was united in marriage to Joyce Dunn in Wickenburg, Arizona. Together they had five children.

Thomas served in the United States Army where he was honorably discharged in 1960.

After moving to the Silver Valley, Thomas began working as a miner. First for the Galena Mine and later for the Bunker Hill Mine, where he worked for over 20 years before retiring.

In his free time Thomas loved to fish. He enjoyed spending his time on the rivers and lakes always casting just one more time in hopes of reeling in the “big one.” When he wasn’t fishing he was spending time in his vegetable garden talking to his plants that he raised from little seedlings. Thomas loved spending time in the woods, he was known to go for drives for hours just to look for timber that would be good for cutting for next year’s winter. He was a happy man and will be missed by many.

Thomas is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years Joyce Pennington; three children Barbara Pennington, Mary (Ruben) Sinohui and Betty (Rugh) Kilburn; seven grandchildren Breann, Mitchell, Candice, Angie, Mark, Tommy and Tammy and five great-grandchildren Nathan, Jayden, Baily, Matty, Kenzie and Keegan; three brothers John Pennington, Jerry Pennington and Larry Artrip. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Jean and Janice and his two children Shirley and Tom Jr.
