WALLACE GIRLS BASKETBALL

WALLACE — The Wallace girls got a much needed win on Saturday as they knocked off Priest River 47-37 — their second win over the Spartans for the year — at Wallace High School.

It was a slow start for the Miners, but once they got going it was too much for Priest River to handle.

Wallace trailed 21-19 after one half of play, but responded with a 28-16 second half to put the Spartans away for good.

“We had a poor shooting first half and we lacked energy,” coach Nichole Farkas said. “But we were able to outscore them in the second half. This was a good team win for us.”

Wallace was led by the trio of Jen Hayman, who had 14 points and 11 rebounds; Kimmie Krous, who chipped in 12 points; and Hayley Oertli, who had 11 points for the Miners.

KELLOGG BOYS BASKETBALL

Thursday, Dec. 14

Lakeland 53, Kellogg 48: The Wildcats allowed host Lakeland to jump out to an 11-0 lead early, but fought back into the game before coming up short.

Senior Chase Jerome finished with 20 points to lead all scorers while Jake Hammerberg chipped in nine of his own.

Saturday, Dec. 16

Deer Park 61, Kellogg 42: The Wildcats began their game against visiting Deer Park the way they normally open games, defensive intensity and quick offense, but then things got out of hand.

Kellogg jumped out to a quick lead, using their press to get easy baskets, but Deer Park responded by slowing the game down and hitting a lot of shots.

Kellogg trailed 28-23 headed into the half.

The Wildcats were outscored 33-19 the rest of the game of the game and Kellogg would lose its third game in a row.

Deer Park’s Isaac Berglund was a man possessed as he torched Kellogg for 35 points in an awe-inspiring shooting display.

Chase Jerome finished with 15 points for the Wildcats while Tyler Gibbons notched 14 of his own for Kellogg.

KELLOGG GIRLS BASKETBALL

Thursday, Dec. 14

Lakeland 58, Kellogg 36: A 30-12 score headed into halftime was really what doomed the Lady Wildcats when they played at Lakeland.

The second half still favored the Hawks, but only by a 28-24 margin.

Jaron Figueroa and Kaitlin Senteney combined for 15 points for the Wildcats.

Saturday, Dec. 16

Deer Park 46, Kellogg 34: No stats or comments were received for this game, played in Kellogg.

Saturday, Dec. 16

Wallace 61, Priest River 43: Zack Welch scored 19 points to lead the Miners past the Spartans at Kirby Krulitz Court.

MULLAN BOYS BASKETBALL

Tuesday, Dec. 12

Genesis Prep 86, Mullan 18: Genesis Prep showed why they are the No. 2 team in the 1A D2 rankings when they traveled to Mullan last week, but the Tigers knew that already.

Mullan played the role of possum against the Jaguars, using this game as a way to see what kind of offenses and defenses they would run.

Mullan knows that they need to beat Genesis Prep to make it to the state tournament, but doesn’t plan on showing their hand until that time comes.

Thursday, Dec. 14

Mullan 48, Superior (Mont.) 32: The Tigers got back to their winning ways as they notched a win in Superior.

Seniors Gryphon Todd and Sheldon Trogden finished with 16 points and 14 points respectively.
