Multiple rape cases brought against Silver Valley man
Accused rapist Jordan Martz had his first appearance in court on Wednesday in front of Judge Barbara Duggan to discuss his legal plans as he faces his third separate sex-based assault.
This was, in fact, Martz’s third “first” appearance in front of Judge Duggan after being arrested earlier this month.
On Dec. 3, the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of an alleged rape that occurred that day and after further investigation Martz, 22, was arrested on one count of rape.
Initially Martz’s bond was set at $100,000, but was reduced to $30,000 which allowed Martz to be bond out of jail on Dec. 14.
Five days later Martz was arrested again, this time for two additional counts of rape, as well as the sexual battery of a child 16 or 17 years of age, adding two additional cases to the one Martz was already facing.
These newest charges stem from events that were alleged to have happened in June and July of this year.
Wednesday’s court appearance had to do with the events of June 25, where it was alleged that Martz used force and/or violence to perform vaginal sex on his victim.
Shoshone County prosecuting attorney Keisha Oxendine is going to pull out all the stops on this situation as it has continued to get bigger over the past month, but couldn’t go into much detail about how the cases are developing.
“This case, as with all others, is taken very seriously,” Oxendine said. “Our office will allocate the resources necessary to ensure justice.”
Martz's bond was set at $200,000 which, coupled with the bond set from his appearance on Tuesday, brought his total bond to $400,000.
Martz is set to be in court later this month, as well as in early January, as the Shoshone County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office prepares for the three different cases.
