Kellogg Police Department Roll Call

| February 1, 2017 2:00 AM

Jan. 23-30

• Question of the week: “Did you see that moose?”

• Towed a vehicle from McDonald’s parking lot at their request (blocking dumpsters).

• Traffic stop on Cameron Avenue for passenger headlight out. Driver found to be DWP. Citation issued.

• Sunny day.

• Follow up for K74. May get another case that I’ll take from that follow up.

• Traffic accident in the McDonald’s parking lot. Information exchanged after the kid was found at the high school and mom was called.

• Approximately 3:52 p.m. placed 48-hour warning on 2001 red Chevy Ventura located on the corner of Helen and Cameron.

• Sgt. had a couple of landline requests (you can see how much he enjoys those).

• Bob wrote down some more laws, today he got familiar with minor in consumption and dealer plates.

• Near the end of the night at approximately 9:30 p.m. we received a call from a civilian for a possible drunk driver. Was a county assist but neither dept. was able to locate the driver.

• Finished reports from previous week.

• Glad to see Bob and Sgt. are “bonding”...

• Malicious injury to property at Dave Smith’s on McKinley. Looks like someone attempted to gain access to the property by breaking the frame holding the window on the front door and then tried accessing the side window and broke a portion of the frame. Doesn’t look like anyone actually gained access, just damage.

• Dropped off paperwork to the courthouse.

• Attempted to grab the statement forms I dropped off yesterday for K74 but no one was home. Let a message for them to call when they’re home but no callback.

• 3:00 p.m., wrote a parking citation for blocking a fire hydrant.

• 7:15 p.m., received a call for possible wolves sighting near Kellogg pound.

• Patrols in Kellogg and Wardner.

• Bob wrote some fake citations to get familiar with the process.

• Mobile patrols in Kellogg and Wardner

• Landline request regarding dog and ownership. This was partially on the previous shift. After gathering information, determined to be civil issue and advised as such. See below for further.

• Two parking issues handled on Main Street in Wardner — vehicles moved, no tickets issued as it is unknown if the vehicles had been there for more than 10 minutes. Verbal x2

• Suspicious person/activity on Railroad. Spoke with RP and found nothing criminal to have taken place (person walking by was on the sidewalk and started a conversation with residents). Advised to continue calling should they feel something nefarious was taking place. Searched area for the pedestrian and was unable to locate.

• Citizen contact 700 block of Howard. Saw a vehicle door open. As I approached, saw a person inside the vehicle. Confirmed this person to be the owner and no further action was taken (other than chatting about employment opportunities within the valley for Public Service).

• Working on injury to child case.

• Follow up recovering statements for K74. They weren’t at her residence so K75 will pick them up later.

• Extra patrol requested around the Kellogg Middle school.

• Neighborhood walkthrough with BOB on Mullan Avenue and Mill for vehicles that needed to be removed.

• Two traffic stops for speed, cleared verbals.

• Concerned citizen believed some juveniles were involved with some meth. They are not. He probably is, but they are not.

• Removed red Taurus from Mill Avenue, RO was informed. The vehicle was in the process of being repossessed by lien-holder.

• Met with RP on walk-in report of damage to rental property, cleared civil only.

• County assist with crash on Bunker Avenue for Kellogg City equipment vs. civilian car. I directed traffic with K76 as the street was completely blocked.

• Assisted K76 with a follow up at the Bizaro’s trailer court.

• Called to the Amy Lynn apartments area for a moose and her two calves. I advised people watching her to keep their distance — she and her babies seemed more interested in eating the orange berries off a tree. Cleared, public assist.

• Mobile patrols in Kellogg and Wardner.

• Juvenile issue at Middle School. Transport juveniles home from away basketball game. Along with county, able to track down parent (at work) and it was only a miscommunication between parent and school. Unfounded and public assist.

• VIN inspection, 700 block of S. Division.

• Domestic, 500 block of McKinley. After all was said and done, adult male taken into custody for domestic battery in presence of child(ren)-Felony / disturbing the peace-misdemeanor / resist, obstruct, delay police-misdemeanor. Male juvenile taken into custody for battery on peace officer-felony (county arrest). Booking and report took up the remainder of the shift as the system was not working and had to go between Wallace and Kellogg to finish up.

• Possible disturbance at Fairbridge Inn. Subject at the motel that has been trespassed ... no record of this person being trespassed. Upon contact with motel, advised there was nothing on file trespassing this person from the public areas. Unable to locate subject as he left on foot. While there, conducted a welfare check with county as subject they were looking for was on-scene. Subject and children are well and well taken care of.

• Possible DUI coming into town. Vehicle was parked and nobody around upon arrival. Will monitor.

• Moose and calf roaming around Moose Creek Grill — sure enough they were there and chowing down on foliage. Advised persons in the area to keep distance and if they are still in the yard in the morning to contact Fish and Game. They do not appear aggressive, nor injured. Advised dispatch they would most likely be roaming the area for the evening and any calls to advise people to leave them be.

• Conducted extra patrols per request. One of the extra patrols was gone upon arrival, still conducted drive throughs.

• Took a dog into the pound from 1112.

• Called to E. Portland near the Amy Lynn apartments for a “pack of wolves.” I was close to the area at the time of the call and was not able to find any wolves or any signs of wolves on Portland or anywhere else in town. Did see a moose though.

• Traffic stop on Hill Street x2, one for stop sign violation, another for lack of brake lights.

• Assisted K74 with follow up from domestic battery.

• Moose on the loose on E. Portland again. Requested Fish and Game be notified to see if there is anything they can do to move them along. Advised dispatch to notify callers to just not bother them. When I went through the area, I was unable to locate. I did however locate several other moose/elk/deer/turkey ... basically you name it ... all throughout town.

• Observed a moose going through Cameron Avenue, Riverside Avenue, Mullan Avenue and Mission Avenue until it decided to finally get on the hill side. That lead to the question of the day: DID YOU SEE THAT MOOSE??

• Smoke/fire alarm at the Morning Star Lodge, building C. Some teenagers decided to cook breakfast and burned sausage links. Cleared other agency assist.

• Released dog from dog pound.

• Traffic hazard on Interstate 90, milepost 49 under the bridge. Report of wire or cable hanging down, seemed to be some sort of foam/insulation. It was partially taken down. cleared hazard removed. 11-12 was just leaving the pound and responded with me.

• Called to 300 block of E. Portland for a laptop that was found.

• Did paperwork and studied.

• County assist with suspicious vehicle in Big Creek.

Be happy, be safe. Don’t pet the moose.
