Another stolen vehicle recovered after slide-off
It appears Old Man Winter doesn’t take too kindly to car thieves.
On Jan. 31, the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) arrested a suspect for stealing a vehicle after he had slid off the road.
At 10:30 p.m., an SCSO deputy located the white colored car on the side of the road in Smelterville on Commerce Drive.
The deputy then made contact with the driver of the vehicle, identified as 20- year old Matthew Cavender, who stated he was coming from Missoula, Mont.
The Deputy asked Cavender for his driver’s license and discovered that he did not one.
A registration check was then ran on the vehicle Cavender had been driving and it revealed that the vehicle had been reported as stolen out of Missoula.
Cavender was then detained and drug paraphernalia was located inside the vehicle after it was searched.
Cavender was charged for Possession of a stolen vehicle, Possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving without a current or valid driver’s license.
The stolen vehicle was returned to its owner from Missoula the following day.
