Roger Herbert Hoven “Big Hov”, 58

Roger Herbert Hoven “Big Hov”, 58, of Mullan, Idaho, was born on August 2, 1958 in Longview, Washington; Roger was the son of Herman Floyd and Virginia Elaine (Ellison) Hoven. Roger passed away February 7, 2017 in Knoxville, Tennessee; he was a true warrior during his severe illness, but even the great pass. Big Hov was bigger than life.

Roger moved to Mullan as a toddler and made it his life-long home. He loved everything about his home town. Roger attended the Mullan High School. He served in the U.S. Army.

Roger married Candie Louise Longley, his high school sweetheart on June 30, 1978 in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho.

Roger was a dedicated family man priding himself on being an outstanding husband, daddy, papa and friend.

Roger had a great love of the outdoors; he enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, snow-catting, bike riding, four-wheeling, boating and anything outside.

Roger had an extremely strong work ethic, believing you received what you put into a job. He had worked at the Star and Galena mines in the 70's and 80's , before becoming a heavy machinery operator.

Roger was a twenty-five year member of the Operating Engineers Local 370, a member of the Mullan Volunteer Fire Department and an EMT for many years. He had also coached the Girls YBL and Junior High basketball teams.

Roger is survived by his wife of thirty-eight years Candie Hoven of the family home of Mullan; two daughters Tiffinay and Greg Walker of Hayden, Idaho, Stephaine Hoven and Jameson Halley of Wallace, Idaho and a nephew who is his son JT James Taylor of Mullan; six grandchildren Robert Taylor, Nyah Conant, Leah Frazier, Haggen Walker, Sloan Walker and Nika Walker, who were all the light of his life; two sisters Elaine Molman of Susanville, California and Shirley Chapman of Mullan; one brother Larry and Charlotte Hoven of Mullan and their children Noah and Lisa Hoven of Osburn, Idaho and Staci Hoven of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho. Roger was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved father-in-law and mother-in-law.

Funeral Services will be held at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Mullan, Idaho on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Art Fleming officiating. A reception and a gathering of family and friends will be held at the Morning Club of Mullan following services; this will be potluck and for further information please contact Kathy Fuller at the Good Samaritan Society-Silver Wood Village at (208) 556-1147. Interment will be held at the Mountain View Cemetery of Mullan.

The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Mullan Volunteer Fire Department.
