Eddena “Dena” Hunter

Eddena “Dena” Hunter, Long-time resident of Potomac, Maryland, passed away at her home in Ocean Pines, Maryland on Sunday, February 5, 2017. Dena was born on August 17, 1930 at her family home in Kellogg, Idaho, the seventh of nine children born to Edward and Valerine Stein. After graduating from Kellogg High School, Dena attended Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Spokane, Washington and became a Registered Nurse. After marrying William Hunter in 1953, Dena lived in several towns in the Pacific Northwest before moving to Potomac in 1969. She continued her career in nursing, specializing in geriatric care, spending many years at the Fernwood House in Bethesda. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, William; her sons, Edward Hunter (Eve Arber) of Glen Echo and Charles; her daughter, Beth LaBrunda (Louis) of Ocean Pines; grandchildren, Shannon DiFilippo (Steven) and Alexander Kaiser; step-grandchildren, Keith LaBrunda (Sarah), Kam LaBrunda (Arthur); Katie Radler (David) and Kristopher LaBrunda (Lauren); great-grandchildren, Haley, James and Caitlin DiFilippo, Rachel LaBrunda, Joshua and Sarah Radler, Jack and Emily LaBrunda; her brothers, Alfred, Charles and Hubert Stein of Osburn, Idaho; and numerous nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved. She was preceded in death by her sisters, June Stein, Gertrude Shephard and Monica Stein; her brother, Gus Stein and her twin, William Joseph Stein. Dena loved both children and the elderly and spent her later years knitting hats and blankets for babies and singing at the local nursing home. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 17 at 11 a.m. at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Rockville, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital , 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 would be greatly appreciated.
