Gerad Anthony Crawford, 49
On November 27, 1967 Gerad Anthony Crawford came into this world and with him brought a loving, kind, and generous heart. He was an artistic, passionate soul with a witty sense of humor and a warm, genuine smile. Beloved son, brother, uncle, friend, and husband, Gerad will forever be etched on our hearts and in our memories. He went home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on July 26, 2017.
A small town boy and proud Kellogg High School Wildcat, Gerad grew up in Kellogg, Idaho and graduated from KHS in 1985. He was avid in track and field and cross country. After 32 years, Gerad still holds the track record in the 3200 meter. His letterman’s jacket was proudly displayed with hard earned medals and you could hear them jingle when he walked.
One of the great loves of his life was cooking. To watch Gerad create in the kitchen was something to behold. He started his career in the culinary industry in 1986 at the Coeur d’Alene Resort and from there he flourished and grew in his craft. After leaving the resort in 1990, he went on to work at Sun Valley Lodge as a Garde Manager. His next move would be to San Francisco where he would end up staying for 15 years. He worked with Master French Chef, Roland Passot, who owned the number two restaurant in the bay area called, La Folie. He became an Executive Pastry Chef at the Fairmont Hotel, the five-star Four Seasons Clift Hotel, and the Sir Francis Drake Hotel. In 2005 he moved back to Idaho, well seasoned in his profession and thankful for the journey of working with amazing chefs and people in the culinary industry.
Enjoying time outdoors running, biking, fishing, and gardening is something Gerad loved, but golfing was a passion and something he took great delight in and loved to talk about, especially with his brother, David. Not only could he create beauty with food but had a flair for drawing and was quite the artist. Gerad’s nieces and nephews were a love of his heart. He came out to support games, made special cakes for birthdays, spent time playing with the kids, and made them laugh.
Family was always important to him. Gerad is survived by his loving parents, John and Margie Crawford of Kellogg, Idaho, his wife of 15 years Jeanne Jarnagan, his three siblings, brother David Crawford and partner Jordan Baker of Kellogg, Idaho, sister Sherrie Jenicek and brother-in-law Jamie of Post Falls, Idaho, sister Jennifer Slusher and brother-in-law Keith of Elko, Nevada; his nieces and nephews, Jakob, Elsie, Everett, Michael, Sarah Rose, Gabriel, Mariah, Madison, and Ashlyn.
Memorial Service will be held at the Worship Center at 307 Main Street, Smelterville, Idaho on Saturday August 12, 2017 at 11:00 am. A reception and gathering of friends and family will be held at the activity center next to the church following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Gerad Crawford Memorial Scholarship through Wells Fargo Bank. Each year we will give a scholarship to a deserving student seeking to pursue track and field or the culinary arts.
