Rev. Philip J.H. Squire, 85

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and pastor, Rev. Philip J.H. Squire, 85, of Kellogg, Idaho, passed away June 15, 2017 at the Kindred Nursing & Rehabilitation-Mountain Valley of Kellogg. He was born January 25, 1932 in Rhode Island, Wyoming; Philip was the son of Philip Bowen and Lydia Eva (Fish) Squire.

Rev. Squire was ordained on June 22, 1969. While residing in California, he owned and operated a handyman business, as well as, he served as an engineer at the Strolee Company. Rev. Squire served also in missionary work.

Philip married Laura Hummel on July 26, 1975 in Long Beach, California. They moved to the Silver Valley in December of 1990 from Yreka, California.

Rev. Squire was a true man of God and loved serving the Lord. He had served as minister of the United Methodist Church of Wallace for nine years. He had served as interim minister for many churches here in the Silver Valley, including the United Church of Kellogg and the First Baptist Church also of Kellogg. Rev. Squire also officiated at many funerals and weddings. Philip and Laura also served as care providers for the elderly in their home for four years.

Rev. Squire was a member of the Silver Valley Worship Center of Smelterville, Idaho. He was a member of the Christian Aid Fund, a member of the Silver Valley Ministerial Association, he had served on the Board of Directors for the Silver Valley Habitat for Humanity, now known as the Silver Valley Fuller Center for Housing; he participated in many dedications for the Silver Valley Fuller Center and the annual Pig Roast for several years. Rev. Squire had served as the Shoshone Medical Center Chaplain of Kellogg for several years. He also had helped with the Panhandle Health District Senior Companion Program and volunteered at the Light The Way Food Bank. Phil was also a member of the Outlander Quartet of Coeur d’ Alene and the Lake City Harmonizers.

Rev. Squire is survived by his beloved wife of forty-one years, Laura Squire of Kellogg, Idaho; three daughters Eva Joy and Cecil Weight of Seattle, Washington, Gail and Rick Rowe of Osburn, Idaho, and Monica Hincke of Pine Grove, California; one son Forrest Hincke also of Pine Grove; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; he is also survived by several cousins in Canada and one residing in Utah. Philip was preceded in death by his parents and one son Philip Paul Squire.

A Celebration of Rev. Squire’s Life will be held on Friday, June 30, 2017 at 11:00 A.M., at the Silver Valley Worship Center of Smelterville with Pastor Corey Berti officiating. A luncheon and a gathering of family and friends will be held at the Church Fellowship Hall following services.
