Wallace Carl McKinnon, 76

| June 19, 2017 1:23 PM

Wallace Carl McKinnon, 76, to his friends and those who knew him he was Wally McKinnon; to his family and the community he was Papa, and to his nephews he will always be “Wimpy”. He was the big dog, sports loving, titan of the family. Born in Superior, Montana and moved to the Silver Valley as a young boy, he quickly became a man and joined the service. He served during the Vietnam war and always made sure to send money home for his family.

Years after the war, Wally met Charlene and immediately fell in love at first sight. Wally and Charlene were married June 30, 1963 and went on to raise three beautiful girls. Papa raised his girls to know that they were truly loved. They were his pride and joy and he was always so proud of them.

Wally was always a man of tradition. Christmas, Hudson’s, Seahawks games, and morning coffee at the Brooks were some of the many traditions he enjoyed. For every tradition he had, he found true joy in sharing his experiences with family and friends. Papa couldn’t wander far without a daughter, granddaughter or his grandson in sight. He was involved in Wallace athletics, Wallace Elks and Gyro Club (named Wallace Elk of the Year), Wallace High School Booster of the Year and a Vandal Booster. He truly loved his community and those around him. No one was ever a stranger to Papa.

Wally is survived by his three beloved daughters, Cheri (Ray) McKinnon of Wallace, Ronda (Andy) Jones of Post Falls, and Brenda (Gary) Kraack of Post Falls; mother-in-law Maxine Nelson of Coeur d’Alene; brothers Harvey (LaValene) McKinnon of Wallace and Jerry McKinnon of Silverton; sisters Charlotte and Barbara; and sister-in-law Newtie (Mike) Moore of Spokane Valley. Wally is also survived by his beloved grandchildren Shayla (Matt), Krista (Cyle) Maryssa, Miranda (Tyler), Kala (David), Jake (Jessa) and Olivia; and great grandchildren Lillianna, Aiden, Jazmine, Zane, Carter, Keegan, Kaylee, Brantley, and Everly. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Wally was preceded in death by his wife Charlene, daughter Kimberly, his father and mother Blacky and Pearl McKinnon, brothers Butch and Tom McKinnon and sister Eleanor Angle.

Honorary pallbearers: Don Berger, Mark Berger, Gary Stanley, Jim Angle, Spike Angle, Tom Barber, Leo McConville, Bruce Gillian, Mike Dexter, Bill Wilcox and Dan McGee.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday June 24, 2017 @ 2pm at Gene Day Park in Osburn, Idaho. Wally was such an avid sports fan we are asking that you either wear Wallace Miner colors or Seattle Seahawks colors/jerseys.
