Communities earn their Independence Day
The Historic Silver Valley Chamber of Commerce has pulled it off.
After weeks of speculation, the members of the HSVCC’s Fourth of July committee were able to secure enough funding to ensure that their Independence Day celebration would go off without a hitch.
The HSVCC received the last $1,000 from the Kellogg Elks Club at their monthly meeting this past Wednesday at the Kellogg Elks building.
Big time donations were received from across the Silver Valley including Dave Smith Motors, Kellogg Elks Lodge #1841, Hecla — Lucky Friday, F&H Mine Supply, Silver Legacy Realty, Cindy Carlson, and Illya Cline.
“We are excited about the 10th Annual Silver Valley Independence Day Celebration,” HSVCC coordinator Colleen Rosson said. “We have had a tremendous outpouring from the community again this year.”
This year’s event has quite the lineup planned including live performances in the park from The Sara Brown Band (one of last year’s Wallace Blues Festival headliners), a 5K fun run/walk coordinator, the Elks will serve their traditional home style breakfast from 7 a.m. through 10 a.m., and the basketball shootout on the courts.
The annual parade has been designed to be as simple as possible for those who wish to be in it. “The parade is pretty stress free this year,” Rosson said. “If you pre-register that would be great, but if not, show up at 10 a.m. and get in! Bring your bikes, dogs, donkeys, classic cars, organization’s, and bands. You will end up at the city park where you can go right into enjoying the day's festivities.”
The parade will follow the traditional Kellogg route as it will run from the intersection at Market and Main Streets down Main onto McKinley Avenue and then down Hill Street into the park parking lot. The Silver Valley Horseshoe League will also be hosting a horseshoe tournament at the pits in the park.
The Silver Valley Christian Academy will be helping out during the festivities in the park.
“We are excited to have the Silver Valley Christian Academy students, staff, and administration run the kids games,” Rosson said. “They will have a bouncy house and fun games and competitions through the day.”
Along with the games, the 2nd Chances petting zoo will be in the park, as well as several other vendors.
The fireworks show will once again put on by the Silver Valley Pyros.
Rosson also relayed a message from the HSVCC board who are excited that the Independence Day celebration was able to happen despite the last minute push for funds.
“The 4th of July Committee would like to give a heartfelt thanks to all the community members and businesses for their support,” Rosson said. “This is an amazing event that is put on by local volunteers, funded by our generous communities, and enjoyed by everyone. We are pleased to continue the tradition in the Silver Valley and celebrate Independence day with all of you.”
