Dorothy Ellen (McCoy) Turnbow, 87

| March 2, 2017 2:00 AM

Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother, Dorothy Ellen (McCoy) Turnbow, passed into the arms of our Lord and Savior at Spokane Washington Hospice House on February 23, 2017. She was born May 12, 1929, the only child of John and LaRue McCoy.

Dorothy attended and graduated from the Kellogg High School in 1947. Dorothy married her true love Ted Turnbow on February 14, 1947 in St. Regis, Montana. Dorothy was a life-long resident of Kellogg until moving to Post Falls, Idaho in 2010 and then moving to Spokane, Washington in October of 2014.

Dorothy attended and graduated from beauty school in 1958 and was a beautician for thirty-eight years. Dorothy was a member of the Evergreen Chorus, the Kellogg Elks Dart League and the Womens Bowling League for many years.

Dorothy’s greatest love was her family. She and Ted also loved to sing, often blending their voices in four-part harmony with friends Ed and Lee Holland, or with Phil and Nancy Battista. One of their favorite places to sing with friends and family was around the campfire on their property on the North Fork of the Coeur d’ Alene River.

After their retirement, Dorothy and Ted loved to travel with their dearest life-long friends Jack and Shirley Carney. They took annual trips to California, Arizona and Nevada, often towing their camper trailer to visit friends and family in those locations. Other travel included annual trips to Missoula, Montana on the 4th of July. They also had such fun on the bus with other Kellogg Elks members for “Mystery Trips”. The windows on the bus were covered and the Elks folks were not told of the final destination for each trip until they arrived.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter Pam McIntyre of Spokane; her son Terry and Cindy Turnbow of Spokane Valley; and a daughter-in-law Sherry Turnbow of Post Falls, Idaho and Sun City, Arizona. She is also survived by eight grandchildren Tom Turnbow, Traci Turnbow Biotti, Ryan McIntyre, Brock McIntyre and Elroy Turnbow, as well as, Tiffany Martin, Alicia Staton, and Aaron Mills; thirteen great-grandchildren Taelor, Reagan, Ashtyn, Kelsey, Alexi, Allison, Andrew, Bryn, Jake, Scott, Braxton, Avery and Tristen; and one great-great granddaughter Berkeley. She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of sixty-eight years Ted, her son Jerry Turnbow and her son-in-law David McIntyre.

A Celebration of Dorothy’s Life will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2017, at 11:00 A.M. at the American Lutheran Church of Kellogg with Rev. Art Fleming officiating. A reception and a gathering of family and friends will be held at the Kellogg Elks following services. Inurnment will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery of Kellogg, Idaho.

The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Kellogg Elks, P.O. Box 608, Kellogg, Idaho 83837.
