Trump greatest threat to public lands

Dear Editor,

Trump and his billionaire puppets in the White House represent the greatest threat to our public lands since their establishment. Even Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon are threatened with desecration, by mining and fossil fuel industrialists. Nothing is sacred under this fascist regime (including Lakota Indian lands).

The so-called President being totally alienated from nature and servile to corporate interests, Idaho and other western states, accordingly, are eager to steal the national forests from the American people — and plunder their resources.

For years, Governor Otter, his legislature, and congressmen Crapo, Risch, Simpson and Labrador, have conspired to shamelessly steal the national forests in Idaho. Their dishonorable lust for our public lands, make these disgraceful politicians the modern counterparts of those dishonorable congressmen, who President John Quincy Adams, in the 1820’s, condemned and despised, for attempting, “with the thirst of a tiger for blood,” to steal the public lands.

America’s forests are, in President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s words, “the rightful heritage” of future generations, in a world losing 48 football fields of forest every minute, with the concurrently greatest wildlife extinction rate known to civilization, and facing increasing threats from global warming -- all of which is meaningless to these unconscionable, anthropocentric Idaho politicians and their ruthless Republican colleagues in Congress and in the White House.

America’s beauty and true greatness are found in the “purple mountain majesties” of its national forests, national parks, wilderness areas, national monuments, wildlife refuges -- in all its untamed wildness and magnificent wildlife -- “from sea to shining sea!”
