Dale August Hasz, 73

Dale August Hasz was born July 16, 1943 in Kellogg, Idaho at the Old Wardner Hospital and passed away March 3, 2017 in Coeur D’ Alene, Idaho after battling liver cancer for the past several months.

He was born in Kellogg and after many moves the family eventually settled in Samoa, California. Dale graduated from Arcata Union High School in 1962. He was the recipient of the Eagle Scout Award and heavily involved in Boy Scouts in his younger years. He began an apprenticeship in the sheet metal heating and air conditioning trade as well as joining the U.S. Army Reserves. He and Cathy Jeanne Nash were married in 1965 and they raised their two children having to relocate for work several times. Dale was the first sheet metal man hired to begin construction on the Alaska Pipeline and his employee card reflected #1. He and Cathy left Anchorage, Alaska in 1976 and moved back to the Eureka area settling in Loleta, Ca. They bought and ran Brom & Pollard Sheet Metal in Fortuna, Ca. until the business closed in 1987. During the Brom & Pollard years, Dale served on the Board of SMACNA (Sheet Metal & Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association) as well as serving on Fortuna’s Chamber of Commerce Board. The family moved a couple of more times for work needs but Dale eventually relocated back to Osburn, Idaho where he lived out the remainder of his years. Dale was happiest being outdoors in the woods either hunting, fishing, or camping. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved nature.

He is preceded in death by his parents Attilee Miles Hasz (1968) and G.A. Hasz (1986) as well as his stepmother Carol Hasz (2015). He is survived by his former wife Cathy Hasz of Eureka, Ca and their children Jeanne Collins (Michael) (Woodstock, Ga.) and Richard Hasz (Osburn, Id.). Dale has three Grandchildren as well: Hayden Hasz (Richard), Selena and Kaitlyn Collins (Jeanne and Michael). He is also survived by his twin brother Gale Hasz (Diana) of Medford, Or; his brother Jim Hasz of Mt. Vernon, Wa. and his brother Jerry Hasz of Sebastopol, Ca. He is also survived by his step-brothers Paul White (A.J.) of Richland, Wa. and Richard White (Candace) of Coeur D’Alene, Id.

No memorial service is planned. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be sent to Hospice of North Idaho Schneidmiller Hospice House, 2290 W. Prairie Ave, Coeur D’Alene, Id., 83815.
