Orville Doc Jacob Dockter, 90
Beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather and brother, Orville “Doc” Jacob Dockter, 90, of Kingston, Idaho, passed away March 8, 2017 at Pacifica Pinehurst. He was born February 17, 1927 in Tuttle, North Dakota; Doc was the son of Martin and Elizabeth (Rath) Dockter.
Doc attended and graduated from the Sandpoint High School of Sandpoint, Idaho in 1944. Right after graduating from high school, he joined the U.S. Navy during WW II. Doc served as a diver on the USS Van Valkenburgh ship, until that destroyer was kamikazed; he was then transferred to the USS Ralph Talbot Destroyer. When he returned to the states and was stationed in Charleston, South Carolina, he met his sweetheart and the love of his life, Audreilee “Audrey” J. Wilder. They married on May 1, 1945 in Charleston.
In 1946, Doc and Audrey moved to Sandpoint, Idaho, but shortly thereafter, they moved to the Silver Valley.
Doc had first worked as a butcher and meat cutter for various stores. He then went to work as a double drum hoistman at the Bunker Hill Mining Company until its closure and he retired in 1982.
While both in their 50’s, Doc and Audrey decided to further their education and both received their bachelor degrees in business management from Lewis Clark State College in 1983.
Doc was a member of the American Lutheran Church of Kellogg, Idaho, a member of the Osburn V.F.W. #1675 and a member of the Tin Can Sailors. On October 20, 2013, Doc traveled on the Veterans Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. to see the WWII Memorial, as well as, other veteran memorial sites; he was so honored to take this trip and considered it to be the trip of a lifetime.
Doc loved and enjoyed his family especially his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing, photography and another highlight trip he often spoke about, was a hunting trip to the Yukon with friends where they bagged a moose.
Doc is survived by two daughters Pam Dockter of Post Falls, Idaho, Kristy and Steve Battista of Kingston, Idaho; six grandchildren Eric and Angie Nichols, Tonja Ray and Michael Duncan, Tara and Gary Edwards, Katy Battista, Amy and Bill Gabiou, and Stephani and Brett Penske; sixteen great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren; one sister Doris Dingman of Sandpoint, Idaho; his sister & brother-in-law Sandra and Bob Minich of North Carolina. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Doc was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Audrey in 2005 and one grandson Brandon.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the Our Savior Lutheran Church of Pinehurst, Idaho with Rev. Ken Bartle officiating. A reception/luncheon will be held in the Church Fellowship Hall following services. Interment will be held at the Shoshone Memorial Gardens of Pinehurst.
