Thomas Richard Weightman, 82

Retired Master Sergeant Thomas Richard Weightman was called to his celestial duty on March 16, 2017 at Camp Foster Naval Hospital in Okinawa, Japan. He was born to John “Al” Weightman and Marie Ellen Weightman Jones on November 6, 1934 in Lemmon, South Dakota.

He came to the Silver Valley in 1941, attended Kellogg High School and was co-captain of the basketball team. He was offered a scholarship in basketball but chose to serve his country instead. He joined the United Stated Marine Corps in May 1953. He had boots on the ground in Korea in November 1953 with the 1st Marine Division. He completed three tours in Viet Nam. In 1963 he was with the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Division.

In 1965, he was with the 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Division. And in 1968, he was with Force Logistic Command. “Tom” spent twenty years in his beloved Marine Corps before retiring in 1973. He moved from the Kellogg, Idaho area to Hawaii in 1972 and later to Okinawa, Japan in1985.

He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Walter, Moonie, Jack, Robert, Eileen, and Francis. He is survived by his wife, Yasu (Kayo) Weightman, and sons and daughters, Robert, Thomas E., Craig Weightman, Jennifer (Wilson), Tomiko (Sink), and adopted son, Shaun Kitchen and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Gene Weightman, Grace Gillette, Aldene (Chucky)Bourgard, Darlene (Flit) Kutchler, Gloria (Bootie) Brill, and Donald Jones. His final salute will take place at Camp Foster Naval Base in Okinawa, Japan. This honor will include a Honorary Guard, 21-gun salute, Taps, and the Marine Corps honorary folding of the flag.
