Wanted felon Roy Bieluch has been taken into custody.

The Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) reports that Bieluch, 50, was located by an off-duty deputy Tuesday morning in Smelterville after he was last seen escaping law enforcement by fleeing into the mountains around upper Page Road last Friday, March 17.

Once he was identified, SCSO deputies and Osburn Police officers converged on his location.

Bieluch initially attempted to elude law enforcement by running back and fourth across Interstate-90, attempting to flag down vehicles in the process.

As backup arrived, Bieluch took the foot chase into Smelterville and continued to elude police.

Eventually, deputies and officers caught up to him and deployed a taser in effort to subdue him.

Due to a leather jacket, the taser had no effect, but law enforcement was able to physically subdue Bieluch and take him into custody in front of County shop on Main Street.

Sheriff Mike Gunderson was pleased with the effort by the responding deputies and officers, successfully putting a danger man behind bars.

“Obviously Bieluch has an extensive criminal history and we were able to successfully get him off the streets with minimal injuries to all involved,” Gunderson said. “It again shows with a collaborated effort by all agencies we were able to communicate and remove a known wanted felon off our streets of Shoshone County.”

In addition to his original felony for violating the terms of his probation, Bieluch could be looking at charges for resisting and obstructing, drug use or possession, eluding, and others.

Bieluch made headlines in February of 2015 when he escaped from the Shoshone County Jail and lead authorities on massive manhunt that ended after he was shot by a homeowner.

Gunderson would like to thank all the citizens for their patience and tips they provided during this ongoing search.
