Neil Andrew Garner, 77
Beloved husband, father and uncle, Neil Andrew Garner, 77, of Pinehurst, Idaho, passed away March 20, 2017 at the family home of Pinehurst. He was born February 5, 1940 in Kellogg, Idaho. Neil was the son of Floyd and Margaret (Clayton) Garner.
Neil attended and graduated from the Kellogg High School in 1958. He then attended the University of Idaho receiving a bachelor degree in business in 1970.
Neil was united in marriage to Carolyn McGuire on August 25, 1961 at the United Church of Kellogg.
Neil had first trained for his banking career at the First Security Bank in Moscow, Idaho; he then transferred to the First Security in Lewiston, where he served as a Loan Officer. Neil then moved to Gooding and later Pocatello serving as Vice President of this bank. He then traveled to Fairbanks, Alaska in 1982, serving as First Vice President and Commercial Loan officer for the Bank Of The North, which later became Key Bank; he retired from this bank in 1993. Neil then returned to Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, where he served as Vice President of Commercial Loans for the Washington Trust Bank, retiring in 1998.
Neil was most involved in any community he resided in. In earlier years, Neil had served as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader in Gooding and Pocatello; he was president of the March of Dimes in Idaho Falls; he was a member of the Pocatello Lions Club and was a member of the Rotary Club of Fairbanks, Alaska. Neil was a member of the Rose Lake Masonic Lodge and a member of the 32nd Degree Scottish Rite and had served as a member of the Jaycees. Carolyn and Neil are also members of the Episcopal Church.
Neil loved and enjoyed his family- family was most important to him; he also enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening vegetables and flowers. Over the years, Neil had helped many people and families. He was so loved and will be dearly missed.
Neil is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years Carolyn Garner of the family home of Pinehurst, Idaho; one son Dan Garner of North Pole, Alaska; and his extended family of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Neil was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers Fred, Paul, Harold, Joe, John and Lyle.
Cremation will be held and Private Family Services will be held at a later date.
The family suggests that memorials may be made to Hospice of North Idaho, 9493 Government Way, Hayden, Idaho 83835; or to the Shriners Hospital For Children, 911 W. 5th Ave., Spokane, Washington 99204; or to the charity of the Donor’s choice.
