| March 24, 2017 3:00 AM

Zola was born to John Dewey Smith and Libby Angeline (Kent) Smith in

Darby, Montana on July 31st, 1928. She was preceeded in death by her husband Clinton (Smokey) Carroll and her brothers, Perry of Pinehurst, ID and Bill Smith of Darby,MT and sister Frieda Schueller of Osburn,ID.

She raised many children and adopted her only son James A Loper of San Diego, CA. Many called her MOM but few knew how fortunate they were to have her in their lives. Once you met her you never forgot the person she was, she was truly remarkable and what you learned from her no-one ever forgot.

She has many nieces and nephews, Zoda Suryan (Harvey) of Osburn, Terri Putnam (Ed) of Elk, WA, Angie (Don) Loper-Mendy of Osburn,ID. Monty Loper (Shala) of Nevada and all their family members. Great nieces and nephews and grandchildren. Lots who loved her deeply for the wonderful person she was.

Zola had a very eventful life from childhood. Her love of the outdoors drew her to guiding in the Clearwater area of Idaho with her then husband who owned Clearwater Outfitters. She was an experienced camp cook and did many good things for the people she knew. All who knew her both loved and respected her for the wonderful person she was.

Zola passed on Sunday the 19th of March at Kootenai Health in the ICU Unit having complications of the flu that has taken so many. She went peacefully knowing how much she was loved and how much she would be missed. With the last breath she drew, the clouds opened and sun shown down on her and she smiled as she made her last transition knowing her journey was about to begin in a much more friendly enviornment. No more pain and sickness and on her way to be with her Family who passed before there to welcome her with open arms.

Don’t mourne her passing, she wouldn’t have liked that, just rejoice in the knowledge that she was a legend in her time here and there’s a new Sheriff in Heaven!!

No services will be held until later. At that time we will let folks know so they can join in her Memorial when we lay her ashes to rest with her beloved Smokey.
