S. Maxine Van Asche, 83

| March 29, 2017 3:00 AM

Maxine Van Asche, 83, of Pinehurst, Idaho, passed away March 25, 2017 at home. She was born September 20, 1933 in Heber City, Utah; Maxine was the daughter of Raymond and Alice (Provost) Casper.

Maxine grew up in Heber City, Utah and graduated from Wasatch High School where she was a member of the band as a first chair clarinet player. She married Hayes Christensen in 1956. He passed away in 1960 leaving Maxine with a small daughter and another on the way.

In 1962, she was united in marriage to Harold Van Asche in Evanston, Wyoming. Maxine worked as a telephone operator for fifteen years before devoting herself to her home and family full time. She raised six children and she was like a second mom to many. Maxine and Harold moved with their children to Kellogg from Salt Lake City, Utah in 1969. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Pinehurst.

Maxine always had a big smile and hug for everyone. She loved visiting with people and no one was a stranger. She could and would strike up a conversation with anyone no matter where she was. When you visited her home, she would either walk you out and wave as you drove away or stand at the window in her dining room to wave goodbye.

She enjoyed her yard. She spent hours out there tending to the flowers, vegetable garden and raspberry patch. She still mowed her own lawn and enjoyed that very much.

Maxine is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, Harold of the family home in Pinehurst; her children Diane (Rocky) Sauer of Osburn, Charlie (Dan) Fike of Kellogg, Tom (Jan) Van Asche of Elko, NV, Dee Dee (John) Betzner of Coeur d’Alene, Sue (Sam) Cartularo of Eugene, OR and Laurence (Tamara) Van Asche of Chagrin Falls, OH; her grandchildren Jeremy Sauer, Bradley (Ashley) Beckwith, Corey Fike, Mackenzie and Shelbie Van Asche, Lane Betzner and Lauren Cartularo; her great grandson Austin Beckwith; her siblings Ray (Faye) Casper of Benson, AZ and Arlene Archer of Provo, UT and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017 2:00 P.M. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Pinehurst. A covered dish dinner will be held after services and all are welcome to attend.
