Empty Bowls Banquet 2017

| May 4, 2017 4:00 AM

Silver Valley Upward Bound (SVUB), a University of Idaho college-prep program, will be hosting a fundraiser banquet on Saturday, May 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Wallace Elks. This is open to the general public, and occurring on the weekend of Depot Days. The banquet will feature an all-you-care-to-eat dinner and Silent Auction of student art.

Thanks to the generous donations from local Silver Valley restaurants, several choices of soups and salad will be featured at this event.

The “Empty Bowls” project has historically been a way to increase hunger awareness within communities, and the Silver Valley Upward Bound program uses funds raised from this event to stock small food banks at Kellogg High School and Wallace Jr/Sr High School which allow students anonymous access to a small pantry with food- and hygiene-kits to take home as needed. SVUB students may earn community service hours through participation in this event.

Silver Valley Upward Bound is administered by the University of Idaho and 100 percent funded by the U.S. Department of Education. SVUB serves 63 income-eligible students annually at Wallace and Kellogg High Schools with the purpose of moving them successfully through their high school years and then on to college. Programming features college visits, scholarship assistance, career and academic advising, and three residential college exploration programs each summer.
