Make Kellogg bloom again
For the last several years the Historic Silver Valley Chamber of Commerce has worked with the local Kellogg businesses to make sure that the city has plenty flowers on display to help beautify the streets and sidewalks throughout Kellogg.
Janice Berti, the HSVCC’s director for the Hanging Basket Project has seen the project grow each year and thinks that this year could be the best one yet.
“The Hanging Basket Project was very successful last year,” Berti said. “It really helps improve the look of the entire Kellogg area. With some of the events that Kellogg has going on this year, we think that we can improve on our previous efforts.”
Some of the events Berti alluded to are the various holiday celebrations and parades, as well as several different class reunions and the big Kellogg High School All Class Reunion coming up later in the summer.
Berti is hoping to get as many businesses involved so that not only does the city have the beautiful hanging baskets throughout, but they can also utilize the many cement flower boxes that can be found in the town.
The HSVCC also uses this project as a way to provide a job or fundraising opportunity for anyone who may be interested.
“We have been able to pay people, or groups around $1,000 to water and maintain the plants throughout the summer season each year,” Berti said.
Last year the Silver Valley Christian Academy used the opportunity to raise funds for their tuition fund, but this year a local teen has undertaken the responsibility.
The way the chamber pays for the labor is all a part of the $80 baskets.
“$80 gets you a basket, as well as the maintenance of that basket,” Berti said.
The bright colored baskets really do make Kellogg a more appealing place and Berti hopes to see that appeal spread all over the Kellogg community.
“The baskets are bright and make the businesses and community look welcoming,” Berti said. “We received many compliments and requests to continue doing it.”
