WALLACE- Law enforcement located a small amount of illegal drugs Thursday afternoon during a random inspection at Kellogg High School (KHS).

The Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) reports that deputies, KHS administration, and a drug detection K9 (Lily) did a walk through of the facility around 10 a.m. in an effort to “deter drug use within the student body and to identify young offenders to get them the help they need before addiction takes hold.”

Since the Sheriff’s Office has no drug detection K9 of their own, SCSO partnered with Phoenix Protective, a narcotic K9 detection service, to conduct the sweep.

The student involved in the drug possession will be facing charges with the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

Sending a clear message that they have zero tolerance for drugs in the local schools, SCSO states that it is their intent to continue random K9 searches of the schools within the community.

SCSO would also like to send out a special thank you to K9 Lily and her handler, Mike Fisher, for their service.

The type of illegal substance located and the charges the student will face were not released.
