Trevor Bumgardner: Kellogg's five tool player

Trevor Bumgardner is the type of competitor that every coach wants on their team.

The right mix of talent and attitude that gives players an edge over those who are without those traits.

Bumgardner was recently named to the Intermountain League All-League baseball team and was Kellogg’s lone selection.

Unfortunately this is a common case for a team that finished last in the league standings, but it doesn’t take away from the fact that Bumgardner would be a welcome addition to any of the teams in the league, because he is that talented.

Bumgardner is part of Kellogg High School’s uber-talented junior class and was one of the Wildcats’ most reliable pitchers, while also rotating through just about every infield position possible.

With one season of high school baseball left, Bumgardner is already thinking of how to lead his team out of the league cellar.

“We struggled to adjust this season,” Bumgardner said. “There were times where kids didn’t want to listen and it hurt us, but we were in position to win several games that we just didn’t so that needs to change.”

The Wildcats were under a new coach for the third time in four seasons and Bumgardner believes that with a little continuity the current coaching staff could do well.

“We had some players who didn’t get along with coach from time to time. But he knows the game of baseball very well and I think that we should be able to come into next year knowing what to expect and it should be a good thing.”

There were some bright spots during the tough season though.

“It felt good to beat Priest River in the district tournament,” Bumgardner said.

From where they are now, Bumgardner is very aware that the only direction the Wildcats can go is up.

“We are going to be better next year,” Bumgardner stated, “we are going to contend for a league championship.”
