Mullan citizens help get city flowers ready for summer
The City of Mullan has their flowers prepared for the annual summer beautification in the town.
Mayor Don Kotschevar was pleased with the volunteer turnout.
“We had a great group of volunteers this past Saturday getting the flowers ready for the city's streets,” Kotschevar said.
This is the third year that Mullan has really gotten into getting flowers out in their downtown area and Kotschevar has a lot of gratitude toward the City of Wallace for helping them get their flower program going.
“The City of Wallace got us involved in this three years ago,” Kotschevar said. “I really liked how nice Wallace looked in the summer so I networked with Del Sanborn, John Ruggles, and Art Fleming and they helped us out getting started. Loaning us their extra baskets, helping us plant, giving advice, etc.”
From there, it comes down to community involvement and Mayor Kotschevar doesn’t seem to have much of an issue getting his citizens on board.
“Through citizen donations it (the flower program) has taken off in Mullan and we now order flowers with Wallace but have our own baskets, greenhouse, and planting station,” Kotschevar said. “The Mullan Community Action Network (MCAN) also donated baskets for the bridges in Mullan. John and Claire Drake were instrumental in organizing and building our greenhouse. They watered the plants last year and have donated many hours to make it all possible.”
Kotschevar reiterated how the increased amount of volunteers is making the program grow each and every year.
“18 volunteers showed up Saturday to plant the flowers and prepare them,” Kotschevar said. “It'll will be bigger and better than ever.”
The program could always use more volunteer help maintaining the flowers.
