Briefing set for FEMA public assistant grant

| May 29, 2017 1:26 PM

COEUR D’ALENE- Kootenai and Shoshone Counties’ Offices of Emergency Management (OEM) , the Idaho Office of Emergency Management (IOEM), and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are working together to expedite Public Assistance grants to eligible public entities and private non-profit organizations affected by flooding, landslides, and mudslides during March 6-28, 2017.

Under the Public Assistance (PA) and Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP), FEMA reimburses applicants for up to 75 percent of eligible expenses. The remaining 25 percent is the nonfederal share. The federal portion is paid directly to the state, which then makes disbursements to the public entities that incurred costs.

The Public Assistance and Hazard Mitigation Grant Programs are only for eligible public entities and private non-profit organizations that were impacted by floods, avalanches and landslides during March 6-28, 2017. Residents did not sustain the amount of damages required to meet the qualifying threshold for any individual assistance program grants.

Kootenai and Shoshone Counties, in support of the IOEM and FEMA, will hold an Applicant Briefing on June 6, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. as a first step in getting assistance to eligible applicants in these Counties. The meeting is located at the Idaho Department of Labor at 600 N. Thornton Street in Post Falls, Idaho.

If you are a public entity or eligible private non-profit organization that incurred damages during the March 6-28, 2017 timeframe and have not reported your damages, please call Kootenai County OEM at (208) 446-1775 or Shoshone County at (208) 556-0392 immediately for an application and additional information.
