Football
- Friday, Sept. 29
West Valley 28, Kellogg 7: The Kellogg Wildcats did their best ‘Rocky’ impression at Teeters Field on Friday night as they stood toe to toe with West Valley of Spokane, and gave the visiting Eagles a stout test.
Both teams came into the game following impressive wins over opponents from the opposite state (Kellogg’s 46-3 win over Omak, and West Valley’s 49-14 win over Moscow), and from the opening kickoff it was physical.
On their opening drive, the Wildcats drove deep into the red zone, but were unable to capitalize before giving the ball to the Eagles following a failed fourth down conversion.
The Wildcat defense held the Eagles to a presumptive 4-and out, but a muffed punt set up the Eagles for their first touchdown of the game.
Kellogg had several great plays that got nullified by mistakes, which forced them into a big 21-0 hole headed into halftime.
But the Wildcats have been resilient this season and especially in the second half, which was on full display Friday night.
Kellogg went into full attack mode, frustrating WV’s starting quarterback to the point the Eagles brought in their second stringer to take over the game.
Wildcat quarterback Chase Jerome played an exceptional game for Kellogg despite being limited in his passing game, picking up 107 yards on 19 carries and scoring the Wildcats’ lone touchdown early in the fourth quarter.
A couple of silly penalties hurt the Wildcats late in the game, something coach Dan Lucier felt kept the Wildcats from winning the game.
“I feel that by the start of the fourth quarter we had a chance to beat them,” Lucier said. “If Chase's first touchdown does not get called back because of an illegal downfield crack-back block, the score is 21-14, then we have a chance to put them away.”
Kellogg continued to show off their dominant ground game as they amassed 257 yards on 56 carries, good for 4.5 yards per carry.
Ryan Morgan led the overall rushing attack with 113 total yards.
Defensively, Wildcats Trent Haston and Weston Stevenson somehow managed to put continuous pressure on the Eagles quarterback despite giving up nearly 150 pounds to each West Valley lineman.
Lucier isn’t worried about the loss, and looks forward into moving the Wildcats (3-2) into conference play this week against Timberlake.
“I was exceptionally proud of our boys and the way they fought West Valley on Friday night. We take pride in being Idaho's best-conditioned team, Lucier said. “We are great in the second half and we finish strong. It is our mind set. Now on to conference play.”

CDA Charter 7, Kellogg 0: The Wildcats came up short in their Intermountain League road contest with the Panthers. Kellogg goalie Shea Curran withstood 35 shots on her goal, while Kellogg was unable to get a clear shot on Charter.
- Thursday, Sept. 28
Bonners Ferry 1, Kellogg 0: The Wildcats renewed their rivalry with the Badgers, but were unable to get one in the net during their Intermountain League matchup in Bonners Ferry. No further stats for this game.
Volleyball

CDA Charter d. Kellogg
COEUR d’ALENE –– The Wildcats struggled with their serving which let to a 5-set loss to the Panthers (25-17, 27-25, 17-25, 18-25, 3-15).
“We were littered with too many errors in the last three sets and then we gave the match to them in the last set,” coach Hollie Yrjana said. “Kaili Cates and Maddie Bush played with a lot of energy for us.”
Cross Country
- Saturday, Sept. 30
SANDPOINT –– The Kellogg Wildcat cross country team had one of their best meets of the year when they ran in the William Johnson Sandpoint Invitational at Travers Park.
Four Wildcat boys finished under the 19 minute mark, each setting a new personal record.
Garrett Miller and Jesse Campbell paced the Wildcats with times of 18:23 and 18:28 respectively, while Jared White and Zach Bergem were right on their heels with times of 18:52 and 18:57.
Alyssa Gilmore finished in third place overall in the girls junior varsity race with a time of 22:23.
WALLACE HIGH SCHOOL
Football
- Saturday, Sept. 30
Genesee 54, Wallace 8: The Wallace Miners ran into a tough wall in the form of White Pine League foe Genesee as they fell 54-8 in their homecoming game.
The Bulldogs came into the game as the top-ranked team in the state and they looked the part as they kept the Miner offense at bay for most of the contest.
After a brutal first half the Miners trailed 42-0, but that didn’t rain on their homecoming festivities.
The second half saw Wallace’s defense tighten up significantly, but it was too little too late.
Miner Jaden Dimitroff was able to find the endzone on a 19-yard run in the second half to keep the Miners from being shut out.
Coach Jared Young was very complimentary of his opponents, but also admonished his team for allowing the game to get out of hand.
“Genesee was a big and senior-led team and they played like it,” Young said. “We made key errors in the game and turned the ball over three times with a fumble and a bad snap for a safety that shifted the momentum early and we just couldn't get the defensive stops we needed to stay in the game. We need to play better in all three phases of the game, and I think we are capable of doing that.”
The Miners will have this week off before facing another stiff WPL test and coach Young is hoping the boys use this time to prepare.
“We have a bye this week and we will spend the next two weeks preparing for another hard-fought game with Prairie,” Young said.
Volleyball

Wallace d. Lakeside
PLUMMER –– The Wallace Miners walked out of Lakeside High School with a hard-fought 5-set win over the Knights (25-23, 25-19, 17-25, 18-25, 18-16).
No further stats were received.
- Thursday, Sept. 28
Wallace d. Mullan
WALLACE –– The Miners defended their home turf in dominant fashion, knocking off the Tigers in 3 sets (25-14, 25-8, 25-14).
After the last meeting between these teams saw Mullan give Wallace a scare, there was no mercy from these Miners, and it was something that coach Anali Spooner liked to see.
“This game was a lot better,” Spooner said. “When we went up to Mullan our heads were not in the game and we had a team meeting the next day about how we played. We talked about attitudes and how just one bad attitude can affect the entire team. I also stressed that if everyone does their job, all of us can come together.”
As far as preparation was concerned, Wallace worked on quite a bit to ensure that they wouldn’t struggled like last time.
“I think we attacked well and read the court well,” Spooner said. “We saw open holes and took advantage, we also were better at reading Mullan's front row and we were prepared for tips.”
Destiny Angle continued her string of strong play for the Miners, as did Catie Sheppard and Hayley Oertli.

Football

Lakeside 72, Mullan 36: The Tigers had a terrific offensive output against the Knights, but it wasn’t enough as they got doubled up by their hosts.
Mullan was forced to finish the game with just seven players.
