WALLACE — The Wallace School District (WSD) made a proclamation last week to honor their food service staff and presented them with roses while they were at work.

This week, they put the transportation staff in the spotlight.

WSD transportation staff play an important role in Silver Valley children receiving an education by ensuring that Wallace students of all ages make it to school, then get back home, safe and sound.

Oct. 16-20 is National School Bus Safety Week.

A proclamation from WSD states that this week was created “in recognition of the transportation staff, and transportation supervisors, who play a vital role in the education system.”

It explains further that “the transportation staff of Wallace School District No. 393 are an integral part of the education program, committing themselves to on-going professional training that recognizes the importance of skills, knowledge and safety.”

In addition to the week, WSD also declared Oct. 18 to be School Bus Staff Appreciation Day.

Like the food service staff the week before, bus divers and transportation supervisors were given a rose on Tuesday to recognize their work.

Shoshone County can certainly make a bus driver’s job much more difficult than it already it.

Combine hazardous winter driving conditions with wildlife obstacles and back county roads- you get driving situations that would keep many from getting to work.

But thanks to these drivers and staff, the wheels on the bus continue to go round and round.
