Osburn City Council candidate: John Specht
John Specht is running for one of two open Osburn City Council positions and, if elected, wants to make Osburn an even better place to live by promoting growth.
Specht is running as a write-in against Randy Cloos, Jack Rupp and Spike Angle — who are also running as write-in candidates (no candidates officially filed to run). A full time resident of Osburn since 1991, He has been married for 23 years to his wife Sandra and they have four grown sons.
Born and raised in Shoshone County, Specht’s mother worked as a school teacher and his father worked as mine foreman.
He graduated from Wallace High School in 1964 and furthered his education with a B.S. in forestry from the University of Idaho in 1969.
Specht retired after 35 years of service with the US Forest Service (31 years working in Shoshone County), and four years with the Idaho Department of Lands. In addition to this experience with the Forest Service, he also worked the Fire Bureau and spent four years as the Shoshone County Emergency Manager.
Specht says that he has been civically involved since childhood and his list of achievements include, being an Eagle Scout, a Vietnam veteran, and receiving several state and U.S. Government awards for recognition of his work in wildland fire suppression.
Specht explains that he will make his mark as councilman by “making Osburn a more positive place for business and families, being fiscally responsible with taxpayer money, being actively involved in identifying issues, and (finding) solutions to citizens concerns.”
