| October 26, 2017 5:00 PM

Nancie Burkhart is running for one of two open Pinehurst City Council positions and is all about working for the good of the people.

“I love to be around and talk to people, love our beautiful city and valley and being involved in the community, she says. “My priority is to have a wholesome, safe affordable and friendly city, while we as elected officials look out for the BEST interest and concerns of all the people.”

Burkhart is the incumbent in the race and is running against challengers Jeremy Groves and Larry Yergler.

Born, educated, and raised in Michigan, Burkhart came to Kellogg, Idaho in 1962 with her parents and family.

She explains that when she was older, “my parents and family left Idaho to go back to Michigan and I stayed here, as I had met my soul mate, Roy Burkhart and loved it here in Idaho.”

She and Roy were married in 1968 and they purchased a home on Pine Street in Pinehurst where she has lived ever since.

The couple have three children — Pam, Craig and Lori. All married and now she has nine grandchildren and 17 “Greats.”

She has worked in foodservice all her life, and in the late ’60s she decided she wanted to further her education, so she went to school to become a health care dietitian and food service director.

She has been on the Pinehurst City Council for the past two years and also served on the Pinehurst Planning and Zoning committee just prior to being elected to council.

Burkhart also served on the council in the early 2000s.

In addition to her work experience, Burkhart says that she is “active in all areas of community” and shows it through her actions.

She is a former member of the P/K Lions Club, but still volunteers with them in many events they sponsor.

As for achievements, Burkhart is proud of her work with community events.

“As of last year I received a plaque of appreciations and achievement for 18 years of organizing the Pinehurst Days Parade and 16 years for the Friday Nite Steak Bar-B-Q,” she explains.

“I’m one of the people who four years ago started up “Sprucin’ Up Pinehurst” with the hanging flower baskets, flowers and shrubs around town.

I was honored last year by the city as Volunteer of the Year for Dare to Imagine. I’m also a very active member in my church, Our Savior Lutheran, as a Deacon and on the church council, participate in Quilting and Bible Study groups.”

On top of all this, Burkhart says she is also a member of the Shoshone County community concert.

“I like to attend school events as well as valley events and promote We, as citizens in all aspects,” she states.

If elected, Burkhart says “I will do everything possible to make our city and area a place where we can all live and be proud of, I know I’m proud of us all. Please consider me as a council person in the upcoming election, I will do my best for all the people of Pinehurst. I’m open to hear all concerns.”
