Got bricks?

KELLOGG — The owners of McConnell Hotel have decided that they will be having a “Block Party” on Saturday.

After the building was gutted by a devastating fire last month, the building was demolished and since then people have been asking about what would become of the bricks.

“Since so many people expressed interest in getting some of the bricks we were thinking about doing a block party,” owner Guy Seiferd said. “It will allow folks to come and get some bricks in exchange for donations.”

The donations that Seiferd mentioned will go directly to the local fire department for building and equipment improvements.

Many of the bricks are in great shape but should not be considered structural anymore.

“The extreme heat and large fall means they could be substantially compromised so do not take bricks for construction projects,” Ellie Seiferd said. “They are pretty and have a ton of character so they would be great for a facade, walkway, or other decorative uses.”

This will be a one day event and there will not be any ability to hold any for future pick-up so come prepared.

Due to concerns with the bricks still shifting and some large drops, there will be some rules for brick collecting:

- No one under 18 allowed in the fence line.

- We will be limiting how many people can actually go into the footprint of the building.

- Closed toed shoes are required to enter the fence line.

- You may also want to bring gloves.

The event will run from 9 a.m. through 3 p.m.
