Pinehurst mayor Bob Jutila presents Belinda Miller with her award for Pinehurst volunteer of the year.

KELLOGG — The Dare to Imagine Coalition held their annual volunteer appreciation dinner last week at the Kellogg School District Community Center.

The cafeteria was a packed house as the various community leaders and volunteer groups were on hand to see the people who were being honored at the event.

Woody Woodford, the Kellogg School District superintendent, has been a major part of the DTIC and thought the event went very well and that the annual event will only continue to outdo itself.

“Last week’s Dare to Imagine Volunteer Appreciation Dinner honored volunteers from each of the nine communities in the Silver Valley,” Woodford said. “The dinner was, in one word, amazing. It was a terrific effort to recognize the valued work of Silver Valley volunteers and encourage volunteerism.”

As mentioned, nine different volunteers representing each of the surrounding communities were honored along with Jim Terrill of Mullan, who was honored as the Valley-Wide Volunteer.

The event was one of the first major events put on by the VISTA Valley Volunteers group that was founded last year.

Woodford extended a special thanks to them, as well as the volunteers who worked at the event.

“A special thanks to the Kellogg High School JROTC Color Guard and the student server volunteers from all three of the Silver Valley school districts,” Woodford said. “I should also give a big thanks to Sue Hall and Shayleen Jerome with Valley Volunteers, for their hard work in putting the dinner together.”

In 2014, the three Silver Valley school districts partnered with the Silver Valley Ministerial Association and the Dare to Imagine Coalition was created.

DTIC brought the valley school districts, community members, organizations, businesses and churches together to provide a variety of support avenues to the children of our community.

One of DTIC roles is to identify volunteers, provide a summer enrichment camp for students and promote volunteerism.

Beside putting on an annual free youth summer camp, in October 2016 DTIC was also involved with the Silver Valley Day of Hope.
