Apple truck causes 4th of July Pass traffic jam
On Saturday, April 7 at 3:00 p.m., Idaho State Police was advised of an injury crash on I90 east of Coeur d’Alene at milepost 29.6 on 4th of July Pass.
A loaded semi-truck driven by 58-year old In Kim of Yelm, Washington, with a trailer loaded with apples, failed to negotiate a left curve.
As a result, The truck and trailer struck the concrete center median barrier, dislodging it and pushing it into the westbound lane of travel.
A green 2002 Ford F250 pickup, driven by 54-year old Russell Filler of Coeur d’Alene, that was traveling westbound struck the barrier that had been moved into his lane. Filler subsequently hit a semi-truck and trailer also traveling westbound, driven by 34-year old Amin Shamasna of Oak Lawn, Illinois.
A fourth vehicle, a white 2013 Ford Flex driven by 28-year old Brandon Carhart of Coeur d’Alene, also received damage from crash debris.
Seatbelts were used by Filler and Carhart. Seatbelt use is unknown for Kim and Shamasna.
Interstate 90 was reduced to one lane in each direction for approximately five hours and no major injuries were reported.
