WALLACE — Absentee voting for the Primary Election on May 15 may be done either by mail or in person at the courthouse.

Absentee ballot applications are available from the clerk’s office at the courthouse or online at www.idahovotes.gov. Any registered elector may make written application to the County Clerk to have an absentee ballot mailed to them. The application must contain the elector’s name, residence address, the address of where to mail the ballot, which party, if any, the applicant is affiliated with and which party’s ballot they choose to vote. The elector must personally sign the application.

The Democratic Party has opened their primary to all voters. Any registered voter may vote the Democratic ballot regardless of their party affiliation. However, the Republican Party has closed their primary, therefore only voters affiliated with the Republican Party may vote the Republican ballot.

If you are already affiliated with a party, you may not change your affiliation until after the Primary. Unaffiliated voters may change their party affiliation anytime including Election Day at the polls.

The completed absentee ballot application may either be faxed to 208-752-1896, mailed to Shoshone County Elections, 700 Bank St. Suite 120, Wallace, ID 83873 or e-mailed, with the elector’s signature scanned in, to jshiner@co.shoshone.id.us. Applications for an absentee ballot to be mailed must be received by the clerk’s office no later than 5 p.m. on May 4.

Absentee voting may also be done in person at the County Clerk’s office on the first floor of the courthouse between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The last day to vote absentee at the courthouse is on Friday, May 11.

Election Day registration will be available at the polls for anyone who missed the registration deadline as long as they can show a picture I.D. along with proof of residence.

In the event a registered elector is unable to vote in person at their designated polling place on the day of election because an emergency situation, rendered them physically unable, they may apply for an absent elector’s ballot on the day of the election by notifying the County Clerk. However, no person shall be entitled to vote under an emergency situation unless the situation claimed rendered them physically unable to vote at their designated polling place within 96 hours prior to the closing of the polls.

Photo I.D. is required to vote at the polls in Idaho. If a voter is not able to show a required photo I.D., they will be given the option to sign a Personal Identity Affidavit.
