Say yes to the dress

KELLOGG — With prom season just around the corner, the Kellogg High School leadership class took it upon themselves to resurrect an old idea in hopes of making every girl’s prom a happy one.

The class recently began a prom dress drive of sorts, where people who have dresses they aren’t using allow students to borrow them for the night.

“We want to make sure that everyone has the option for a dress if they can’t get one for themselves for some reason,” KHS senior Kaili Cates said.

And that is the direction the group elected to take the project — not doing it as just a financial charity, but also for people who can’t find a dress they like, that fits right, or if they are trying to just be frugal; it doesn’t matter as long as the dresses are respected.

“We know that there are definitely people who could be hurting financially, maybe their parents are on strike,” Kassidee Wood said. “But this isn’t just for that. There are a number of reasons why someone may need to rent or borrow a dress.”

The dresses coming in are nothing short of spectacular either, which has some of the girls in the project regretting their purchases.

“My goodness, some of the dresses we are getting are absolutely stunning,” Sierra Rice said with a laugh. “There are definitely a few them I wish I was wearing myself.”

The process for getting a dress is a simple one too. Students need only to visit Kelton Enich’s classroom on April 24, after school and they will be able to look at the collection of dresses and then try them on.

“Most of these are lace up style dresses that will fit a lot of different sizes,” Cates said.

For more information, or if a student can’t make it on April 24, they can visit with Ms. Enich and she will help set something up.
