Thompson Pass now open for the season

| April 20, 2018 2:15 PM

WALLACE — Shoshone County Public Works Director Frosty Greenfield has announced Thompson Pass is open for the season.

Although the pass is now open, motorists are still encouraged to use caution while driving over it. Substantial amounts of snow are still present in higher elevations and higher daytime temperatures will cause melting snow runoff on Thompson Pass to turn to ice as temperatures fall below freezing at night.

Greenfield was happy to make the announcement, as he and his crew know that many look forward to using the route in the warmer months.

“Both residents and visitors are always anxious to have the pass open every spring, as it saves travel time and provides a shorter alternate route connecting Idaho and Montana.”

Greenfield also commended the Shoshone County District No. 1 crew, saying that they “did an exceptional job of clearing snow by utilizing a rotary plow truck and graders to complete the annual task.”
