WALLACE FIGHT NIGHT X

WALLACE — Hopefully the town of Wallace is spoiling for a fight, because that is exactly what they’re going to get Saturday night when boxing clubs from all over the Northwest descend upon the tiny mountain town for Wallace Fight Night.

This will be the 10th event put on by coach Rick Welliver and the Silver Valley Boxing Club and the first since last November.

When asked if he is excited for the event after the long wait, coach Welliver was short and sweet in his response.

“I really am excited for this one,” Welliver said. “We have new clubs and new boxers coming in, this should be a great event.”

This event has 16 fighters currently on the card, but the locals will get to see one of their own hold court at the Wallace Civic Auditorium.

Young Tyler Wuerfel will be making his hometown debut, but coach Welliver isn’t worried about any first time jitters from his 65-pounder.

“Tyler will be fine,” Welliver said. “He’s young and aggressive and that always wins. He is all offense and he has a good matchup.”

Wuerfel’s strategy isn’t one that is uncommon for younger fighters and Welliver thinks it is the perfect style to produce wins for our local fighters.

“I want these kids playing checkers, not chess,” Welliver said. “We want him to be aggressive and jump on his opponent and worry about the consequences later.”

Fighting in the main event will be crowd favorite Coral Devereaux, a product of Welliver’s Spokane Boxing Club and regular main-eventer at Wallace Fight Night.

Tickets are on sale, but can also be purchased at the door.

The doors open at 3:30 p.m. and fights will begin at 4 p.m.

Tonight’s fight card is listed to the right on this page; and as always, it is subject to change.
