Wildfire burning in Heyburn State Park

PLUMMER – The Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation (IDPR) issued a release today detailing closures caused by the “Boundary Fire,” currently burning within Heyburn State Park and along the Trail of the Coeur d’Alene’s.

“The fire that is burning in Heyburn State park next to the Trail of the Coeur d’Alene’s at mile-marker 4.75 on the trail is called the ‘Boundary” fire,’ Idaho Department of Lands Fire Warden Cory Flesher said, “The fire is currently around three acres in size.”

Three engines and approximately twenty firefighters are working to contain the fire along with a helicopter and two fixed wing water scooping aircraft.

The fire is currently estimated to be 40 percent contained and is anticipated to be fully contained by the end of the day.

“Trail of the Coeur d’Alene’s closures are in place to allow access for firefighters, equipment and to ensure public safety,” Heyburn State Park Manager Ron Hise said. “The trail will be closed between mile marker 0 at the trailhead in the City of Plummer and the Indian Cliffs Trailhead in Heyburn State Park until we determine it’s safe for public access.”

Crews will be working on the fire for several days and closures are expected to be in place while crews are present. Updates will be posted to the Heyburn State Park Facebook timeline and website.
