As cooler weather and fall approaches, the City of Kellogg’s Sewer Rehabilitation and Replacement Project is inching closer to the finish line for the 2018 construction season.

Phase III continues on Railroad Ave. and into the intersection of Hill Street and Railroad with sewer work. Service work will begin on Railroad Ave. soon and take three to five days.

Sewer work is nearly done on Teddy and Park Ave. Work will now begin to install a much needed storm water collection system in this same area. This will be followed with road work in preparation for paving. The next pave out for Phase III is currently scheduled for mid September.

Following the Labor Day weekend, crews will be working on a large and complex waterline crossing and replacement project on Hill Street. A couple of businesses will be without water service during this work and they have been notified of this outage. For everyone else in Kellogg it is important to reduce your water usage on Sep 4th. The storage tanks cannot be refilled during this work and if those tanks run dry we will all be without water, including the hydrants for fire suppression. Once that work is completed, sewer main will be installed on Hill Street. Crews will then move to the basketball courts off of Hill Street near Teeters Field to install main line sewer.

Phase II continues north of I-90 in the Sunnyside Addition. Work on sewer along Elder Ave. is complete. Work will now shift to the water system between Sunset Ave. and Hill Street.

Sewer work has begun on Hill Street and Railroad Ave. In addition to the sewer work, water lines and a storm line in this same area will be upgraded. This is a highly congested area with regard to underground utilities and work here will continue until late fall.

Main line water is now done on Mission Ave. Service work in this same area will continue for the next ten days or so. Once completed, repairs will be made to storm lines and the road will be prepared for paving. Mission Ave. will not be included in the September pave out. Paving on Mission Ave. later in the 2018 construction season will be weather dependent.

Sewer work on Division Street is now done. Work to install water line is next. Once completed, the road will be prepared for paving. The next pave out for Phase II is currently scheduled for September 18th.

On Mullan Ave. from Cedar Street to Division Street work is underway to install curbing and prepare the road for paving during the September pave out.

Mainline sewer work will soon begin on East Mullan Ave. This will be followed by service work in the same area.

I want to remind everyone that school will be starting very soon now. Please watch out for young children as they make their way to bus stops and on to school.

As always I am asking everyone to be safe. Please continue to obey road closure signs and drive carefully around and through active construction zones. Watch out for pedestrians and especially young children and pets. Remember, operators of heavy equipment may have blind spots that make it hard to see vehicles and pedestrians so give them plenty of room to maneuver. Please be patient with all that is going on and don’t be afraid to say thank you to those who are working hard on your behalf.

Parents, please remind your children to avoid active construction zones and to not play on material piles placed throughout the area.

Anyone needing special assistance related to the sewer project or who may have questions or concerns should contact Mr. Craig Lewis, Superintendent of Public Works at (208) 786-9131. On weekends, holidays or after work hours you may contact Mr. Lewis by calling the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Dispatch at (208) 556-1114 and ask that they contact him for you.
