Fire danger lowered and Stage I restrictions rescinded
CATALDO — The Shoshone County Fire Chief’s Association (SCFCA), which includes members from all local fire departments and wildland fire agencies, have determined it is time to lower the fire danger to “High” for the local area effective Aug. 31, 2018.
The Association would also like to announce that Stage I Fire Restrictions are being rescinded.
With this recension, the following acts are now allowed:
•Building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire, campfire or stove fire.
•Smoking
Please remember that a day or two of intermittent moisture does not offset a dry fire season.
While the cooler temperatures and precipitation no longer warrant extreme fire danger, the public is urged to still be careful with fire.
It is typical that only half of the rain received penetrates through a forest canopy, so please keep up your due diligence and awareness for fire safety as you are out enjoying the woods.
Burning permits are unavailable while we remain at “High” fire danger levels and until a significant amount of moisture is received.
If you suspect a wildfire, dial 911 immediately and provide the following information to greatly assist first responders:
•Your name and phone number you are calling from.
•Where is the fire located?
•Can you see flames?
•What size is the fire?
•What is the volume and color of the smoke?
•What is burning?
•From what location can you see the fire?
•Can you stay at that location to point firefighters in the right direction?
Please stay engaged in your community as we continue wildfire season.
